About Xenophon. (Curious life)

(Este texto contiene detalles sobre la vida de Jenofonte. Se trata de practicar el inglés desde nuestro terreno. De antemano, disculpad los errores!.)

It is said that Xenophon wasn’t a disciple of Socrates ,at least in the same way as the others, considering his lifestyle and his permanent stay outside Athens.
But , if we think about his philosophic works (Memories, Apology and Banquet, in which the main character is the philosopher , and everything focuses on Socrates’ life and philosophy) we can say that the time they met was enough so that the influence in Xenophon was so strong to write these three works starring the teacher, despite the distance and the time gone.

Xenophon was born in the demo of Erquia in the east part of Aticca about 430 aC , so he was 40 years younger than Socrates.(Plato was born in 427 aC) He belonged to a rich family, so he had a good education (including riding, his great passion) .

In 401, he joined up, as mercenary, (so he likes military life) a Persian troop within others Greeks to support Cyrus the younger , who wanted to remove from power his older brother Artaxerxes II. Athenian government didn’t agree this venture.
When the two brothers with their armies met in Cunaxa , the Greek won but Cyrus died making his victory completely useless.
Xenophon was one of the generals who led the army to return from the interior of the Persian territory, and in 399 aC  he and most of the soldiers joined the Spartan army.

In  399 aC part in the battle of Coronea at the service of the Spartan king Agesilaus against Athens and other cities.
For this reason was declared exiled from Athens but , on the other hand, the Spartan government rewarded him with a property near Olympia where he lived until 370 aC.

Then lived in Corinth and the Athenian government revoked his banishment and allowed him to come back to the city but we don’t know if he did it. Eventually, he died after 355 aC.

In all these years of exile he wrote in attic dialect history works, philosophic works and works focusing on other issues like riding, hunting, domestic life and politics.

Necessarily, the distance would influence his language , and being considered traitor to the city , his relationship with others Socrates’ disciples and others citizens would influence his life during many years.
